A Compassionate Approach to End-of-Life Veterinary Care

At Comfort Vet, we believe that every pet deserves a peaceful, loving goodbye. Founded by Dr. Ellen Lagore, one of Edmonton’s few veterinarians certified in hospice and palliative care, our practice is dedicated to ensuring that caregivers and their companions receive the highest level of support, understanding, and care in life’s final moments.

Expertise You Can Trust

Meet Dr. Ellen Lagore

Dr. Ellen has spent years refining her skills in veterinary medicine, focusing on the niche field of palliative and end-of-life care. She is one of only three veterinarians in Edmonton with this certification, making her uniquely qualified to provide gentle, expert-led guidance for families navigating this difficult journey.

Born and raised in Edmonton, Dr. Ellen always knew she wanted to be a veterinarian, but it wasn’t until she cared for two high-medical-needs Chihuahuas that she fully committed to pursuing her passion. She began her veterinary education abroad at St. Matthew’s University in the Caribbean and completed her degree at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon, graduating in 2019. She is certified in canine rehabilitation and, most recently, in hospice and palliative care.

With extensive training in pain management, hospice support, and in-home euthanasia, Dr. Ellen approaches every visit with a commitment to both medical excellence and heartfelt compassion. She understands that end-of-life care isn’t just about veterinary knowledge—it’s about providing reassurance, comfort, and a peaceful farewell that honors the human-animal bond.

Outside of work, Dr. Ellen enjoys making dollhouse miniatures, photography, and spending time with her senior rescue Chihuahua, Sprinkles.

A Veterinarian Who Has Walked in Your Shoes

Dr. Ellen’s passion for end-of-life care isn’t just professional—it’s deeply personal. Having faced the loss of her own beloved dog, Beans, she knows firsthand the emotional weight of these decisions.

In the spring of 2022 I unexpectedly lost my beautiful baby Beans. He was a mischievous chihuahua and a cuddle monster, and I was fortunate enough to have his companionship for 11 years. He passed away during a medical procedure under the care of a specialist, so I was not present to say goodbye. Even as an experienced veterinarian I was overwhelmed and unprepared for how difficult and emotional that moment proved. Informed by my personal experience of losing Beans without a farewell, I want to facilitate a peaceful goodbye for care-givers in order to allow the most loving start to their grief journey.

This experience allows her to connect with caregivers in a way that goes beyond clinical care. She offers not only veterinary expertise but also a genuine understanding of the grief, love, and responsibility that come with saying goodbye. Her goal is to make this journey as gentle as possible, providing the same kindness and care that she wished for during her own experience with loss.

If you’re navigating this journey, know that you are not alone. Reach out today to learn how Comfort Vet can support you.
